Apple beat the earnings hurdle. Its holiday margin outlook supplied the harder test. Apple’s official November 2 release confirms fiscal Q4 2026, ended September 26—not calendar Q4. The earnings call was scheduled for 2 p.m. Pacific / 4 p.m. Central.
The results against expectations
| Metric | Actual | Consensus | Prior year |

| Revenue | 114.477 | 113.4 | 102.466 |
| Diluted EPS | $2.10 | $1.99 | $1.85 |
| iPhone revenue | 57.583 | 56.54 | 49.025 |
| Services revenue | 31.573 | 31.58 | 28.750 |
| Greater China revenue | 17.539 | 18.58 | 14.493 |
Sources: Apple’s consolidated statements; FactSet headline consensus reported by AP; operating consensus reported by Reuters (LSEG, with Greater China from Visible Alpha). Provider samples differ. Company figures are nominal, not seasonally adjusted.
Calculated from the displayed numbers, revenue beat consensus by 0.95% and EPS by 5.53%. Sales grew 11.7% year over year; EPS rose 13.5%. China grew 21.0% yet missed its benchmark: growth and an expectations miss can coexist.
Apple’s release reports 47.9% gross margin, including about one percentage point from tariff refunds. EPS included $0.05 from refunds. Subtracting these benefits gives approximately 46.9% margin and $2.05 EPS; these are simple analytical adjustments, not company-issued alternative measures.
Holiday guidance changes the interpretation
Reuters’ call coverage reports 45–46% December-quarter gross-margin guidance and Services growth of 8–9%, versus 10.7% expected. The midpoint margin is 2.4 percentage points below reported September margin, or about 1.4 points below the refund-adjusted comparison. Apple’s official webcast was accessible as a streaming page, without a readable transcript in this review; call figures here are attributed to Reuters rather than presented as independently transcribed quotations.
Interpretation: rising component and AI delivery costs can absorb incremental sales. More shipments do not automatically produce proportionately higher profit. The holiday quarter is fiscal Q1 2027; its outlook must remain separate from the completed September period.
How the outcome compares with our preview
Our Apple and QQQ preview set $113.4 billion revenue and $1.99 EPS hurdles. Both were cleared. Its warning that holiday profitability could outweigh a headline beat proved relevant. A profitable quarter was never a guarantee of a positive share-price response.
The preview’s valuation snapshots—33 times fiscal-2027 earnings and a separate 35.8-times forward measure—were dated observations, not updated post-release multiples. A lower price alone does not establish cheapness if forward earnings estimates fall too. Illustratively, a 5% earnings upgrade combined with a 10% multiple reduction implies a 5.5% price decline: 1.05 × 0.90 − 1. This is arithmetic, not a forecast.
AAPL, QQQ and futures: keep the observations separate
AP reported AAPL at $329.60 during the call, versus a $338.32 regular-session close: a calculated −2.58%. This is a reported intraconference observation, with no exact quote timestamp supplied, not a latest executable price or final after-hours close. No independently timestamped current QQQ quote was verified for this article.
| Contract | Price | MarketTime UTC | Central standard time |
|---|---|---|---|
| NQ December 2026 | 28,224.25 | 21:59:57.661 | 15:59:57.661 |
| ES December 2026 | 7,586.75 | 21:59:58.551 | 15:59:58.551 |
The ATS cross-market snapshot was retrieved for this review, but these rows stop just before the call’s scheduled start and are stale for an evening assessment. They cannot measure the completed call reaction. CL was 96.27 dollars per barrel and GC 3,956.60 dollars per troy ounce at approximately 21:59:56–59 UTC; these too are historical context, not synchronized current confirmation.
The file identifies instruments, prices and timezone-qualified MarketTime fields. Its Session value is NYSEF, but it provides no session-boundary definitions, settlement/reference-close field or dictionary for proprietary SFG/NYSE scores. Those scores are not treated as percentage returns. SignalPrice describes a trading signal, not a previous close. Accordingly, no daily futures percentage or Apple event return is calculated from this single snapshot. AAPL shares and QQQ ETF prices are distinct from NQ and ES futures; their point scales are not interchangeable.
Apple weakness can weigh on Nasdaq exposure, but index performance also reflects other constituents, rates, positioning and economic news. The Treasury-yield backdrop remains an independent valuation influence. Coincident moves do not establish Apple as their sole cause.
A buying opportunity requires evidence
A selloff has more than one possible outcome: recovery if costs stabilize and earnings estimates hold; consolidation while investors reassess margins; or a lower valuation if estimates weaken. A volatile rebound alone does not distinguish them. For QQQ and NQ, watch forecast revisions, broader technology participation and whether gains survive a full cash session. For ES, broader sector performance can offset or amplify technology weakness.
